Default What's wrong with my Honda Civic?

Hi, yesterday my mom said she was driving my 1998 Honda Civic LX and it got really hot and started smoking. When I went to drive it today, the car would barely accelerate at all and was shaking! It took forever to start going the speed limit.

This is the first problem I have ever had with the engine.

What could be the problem? How much would it cost to fix? I am so upset that my engine is messed up!

I can think only think of 3 things that could be wrong

Either one of your fans stopped working, your transmission is dying out, or its your engine

good luck, hopefully is nothing to expensive

Sounds like u need a new transmission. That would explain the shaking and the acceleration problem. Take the car to a mechanic and have them check it out, i would suggest a tranmission specialist. Not only are they going to be able to give your tranmission a quality check, but they will most likely be able to tell u if theres anything else wrong with your car. I don't think your engine is the problem(Honda motors are near indestructible). It really sucks that your transmission is going out, it will most likely cost around $2000. Good Luck getting it fixed!!!

it could be of the radiator, see if the radiator is working, because its what cools your engine, also it can be the transmission.. check all fluids in the car make sure their full. meaning check engine oil, transmission oil, and radiator fluid,, dont worry most that can come out is $3000 im guessing price

Check the following

1. clog radiator

2. water pump malfunctions

3. fan not working

4. auxiliary fan could be failing

5. coolant leaks

6. stock up thermostat

have this check by a good Honda mechanic. Hope this helps!

Our 1999 Civic started running warm. Turns out it was the thermostat that went bad. Replaced it and never had another problem.
