Default 2001 Honda CRV snapped timing belt. What do i do?

We had a traveling mechanic come out to check the car. He explained that the timing belt snapped. The symptoms before the mechanic were the car did not turn over. It would not turn over (even when jumping). The The mechanic says we will have to take it into the shop and get a new head. Is this possible? what CAUSES the damage of the timing belt snapping? Thanks to any and all who offer information. I am a poor man and i need any help i can get.

did you actually see the severed belt?

It happens, I change mine at 1/2 the recommended millage interval just in case. You might be in for more than just a head you might well have had the valves punch holes in the top of the cylinders and have the resulting debris score the cylinder bores.

You might be in for a recon engine.

You could get a workshop manual and get the covers and head off yourself to see what the damage is then decide how you want to progress.

im sorry to say the mechanic may be right. those are symptoms of the timing belt snapping. the reason why you would need a new head is because you might have bent some valves. the timing belt turns both the crankshaft and the camshaft/s to keep your pistons, intake and exhaust valves working together to make the engine run. when you turn off the engine some valves stay open. with no timing belt in place when you tried to turn on the engine the crankshaft turned but the the camshaft/s stayed in place, so some of those pistons smashed the valves that stayed open. this is why you would have to replace the head. hope this helps.

Wow! Wasn't that a little uncalled for? I mean calling someone a dumbass in your first post on these forums? Come on! I mean yeah, alot of people are ignorant to the mechanical aspects of their vehicles and may not realize the importance of the timing belt being serviced at the correct mileage, but I don't think there's any need for name calling...

With that said, this is my first post here as well. I'm not new on forum communities though... been a member of a few sites for years. I joined up here looking for info on my GF's Civic... she's at about 90k, and I'm getting ready to do her timing belt and water pump. Anyone got a good writeup on here???

Sorry for the hijack btw! I guess I should go make a proper introduction post...
