I would like to buy one of these next year but I can't make my mind up! I own a Honda at the moment (not the new shape) and always wanted to have a type-R. However the Type-R has been around for a while now and it doesn't have a lot of torque which means i'd have to rev the nuts of it to get the most out of it! I know Honda is extremely reliable so maybe it can take the punishment! but i've also began to like the Ford Focus ST. The problem is, is Ford as reliable as Honda? I know the ST is faster but does that make it a better car overall? I like the looks of the Focus and in my opinion it looks a bit more modern compared to the Honda. Also I've read that the suspension is not so hard on the ST as it is on Type-R. What would your choice be out of these 2 cars? What is the running cost on both cars?

i love honda's so id say the type-r. ford is not as reliable as honda, honda are brilliantly engineered cars, in the 1997 ek9 civic type-r, they got 185bhp out of a 1.6 and you could get more with tuning. it still stands as the most powerful normally aspirated production 1.6 engine in the world! (B16B). the ST's are nice cars as well, an more powerful stock, but bear in mind it has a 2.5 turbo next to the 2.0 normally aspirated in the honda, yet only puts out around 25bhp more. v-tec engines are revvy, (8000+ rpm) and can take the abuse, the K20A engine in the R's can be tuned and modded to ridiculous bhp, i know of someone who runs a supercharged type-r and it runs 11 sec quarter miles.
so i feel the honda is the better car, without a doubt, better built, more intelligent engine, running costs will be less on the civic and they look good (but then the st's do aswell). the suspension is stiff on the honda's, but then it probably makes for better cornering. my friends just bought a 2005 fiesta st and has had issues with it already. as long as you look after the civic, change oil and service it etc then it will keep asking for more no matter how much you thrash it! im biased though, as i say im passionate about honda's, the st's are good cars aswell, but thats my opinion. |
