If you want the v tech to kick in you have to shift at over 6000 RPM..........V tec is the soleniod that shoots shit all over the engine.....( it boosts the engine a little bit) Its not going to do anything special. So get a new car..

To maximize the power from your VTEC Civic, you will need to shift after reaching 5800 rpm. To go fast, you shift just before the red-line, if not the rev limiter will engage. VTEC - Variable valve Timing and lift Electronic Control, is a system that used two camshaft profile and electronically selects between the profiles. One is design for fuel efficiency and the other is for increase horsepower.

vtec just switches to a more aggressive camshaft profile at high rpms. It does not take a rocket scientist to use it. Floor gas pedal, shift at red line, thats it.

All V-Tec does is help the engine know when to use less gas or more gas basically, but after 5,800 rpm thats when it starts pushing more air and gas into the chamber for more spark, i think shifting at about 7,750 or 8,250 rpm will do
