Default 1992 Honda accord overheating problem?

my 1992 honda accord has been overheating lately. We checked the coolant and it was fine, we don't have a radiator leak. I was going to change the thermometer but someone had told me not to because when you turn the heat on to take heat off of the motor the temp gage goes hotter. and when you apply gas it goes down (as in I have a manual and just applying gas when stopped. Someone told me it was the heater core. I was just wondering if that's correct of if you have any suggestions.

if the heat core is out it would be leaking, the thermostat could be sticking or the water pump is out or the engine is full of rust

Could be a blown head gasket or a cracked block, or a fan clutch.

the pump might not be pumping up water from the radiator

I agree with dj. It could be any number of the things that he listed. The easiest thing to check for is the head gasket. Check the oil and if it is a milky brownish white color then it is either a blown gasket or cracked head. That would be the first thing that I would check

check the thermostat and the water pump... honestly, i cant diagnose a problem without seeing it, but it does sound like a thermostat, plus its the cheapest and easiest thing you can start with in your diagnosis. also check if your radiator fan is engaging, that might be another reason your car overheats the way it does. Good luck, hope this helps

ITS NOT THE HEATER CORE!! never replaced a core on a honda in 12 yrs of working on them. start with the thermostat if that does'nt help its probably a pluged up radiator. honda tech/shop owner
