Default TCC sensor on 2000 Honda Prelude?

We have recently had our transmission worked on. The check engine light keeps coming on. We took it to Autozone and they said it was reading TCC. Which is something to do with torque convertor. Well we bring it back to shop and they say ok it is good to go and the light comes back on. I do not know why.. We took it back to shop again!! Just wondered if anyone has experienced this and if so what the heck is the deal? Thanks so much

the torque converter clutch codes on the 2000 Preludes were an indication of internal transmission damage that prevented the torque converter clutch from engaging. there is no sensor that detects that it is engaged or disengaged. the decision that it is not engaged is done by comparing engine speed in rpm to the expected engine speeds when the vehicle is going over 42 miles per hour when the clutch should be applied. if the engine speed is higher than expected and out of the range of expected speeds then the onboard computer 'knows' that the torque converter clutch is not applied.

on the 1999-2000 Preludes (and on the Accord V-6 and Odyssey as well) a torque converter clutch code (P1740, P1705 or similar) was an indication that there was debris from the internal failure of components that plugged the oil passage for the torque converter clutch and that was what prevented the clutch from engaging. it required the replacement of the transmission to fix it. the problem was so widespread that Honda extended the warranty on the tramnsmissions on the 1999-2000 vehicles to 109,000 miles or 7 years and 9 months from date of purchase. your Prelude is probably out of that warranty extension at this point. if it were under then honda would have provided for the repairs at no charge.

if you had a shop rebuild it, then they didn't do something right. Honda has an exchange transmission program because they did not feel the transmissions could be successfully rebuilt in their dealerships.

hope that helps
