it's automatic, with AC, only 26,000 miles, I had it since it was new, but even so shouldn't it get better mileage by now? When it was new people would say it wasn't broke in yet.

It depends on how you drive. The fuel rating tests are based on ideal conditions, and granny driving essentially. Though you should check things like your tire pressure, and maybe have your car tuned. Little things can really add up over time.

have you done any maintenance on your car since you bought it? there may be something wrong with your fuel system. there is 2 ways of finding out how to fix this. the easy but expensive way is to take it to a mechanic. the second is the cheapest but you have to do some research online. there are alot of honda websites out there. these forums usually are guys who trick out there hondas, but they have alot of knowledge when it comes to the engines. you can join one and ask why you get such bad gas mileage. a good one is www.honda-tech.com

Depend on what you done to your civic. Any modification done to the car? when was the last time you did tuneup on it? Always check tire pressure for proper measurements. Running on low tire pressure can reduce MPG dramatically. Also check if tires are wearing evenly. Wheel alignment can also effect MPG but rarely. Since the vehicle is still low mileage, I recommend doing a complete fuel system cleaning. Thats is called the four step fuel cleaning. Thats consist of fuel filter replacement, fuel injector cleaning, Air Intake cleaning, and fuel additive/fuel enhancement.
Also I recommend getting a K&N air filter replacement. K&N filter replacement is reusable, help the car to breath better than stock replacement and also increase MPG rating. It cost a little more than stock replacement but will worth the money. |
