I just got my first car as a present for graduating high school! Now im a freshmen and college and I want to fix up my car. Im kinda low on cash. So i don't want to spend bundles at expensive auto shops. What is a simple and cost efficient way to keep my vehicle running smooth and fix it up a little bit? I don't know very much about cars, so please help me out!

Buy the clymer or haynes repair manual for the car. Just keep the oil fresh, clean air filter and make sure it has coolant. The car should run forever. It is easy enough to fix minor things on that car with a modest set of tools, the manual and a little of your time. Also the Internet has been a great source of repair info for my gf's civic and has saved her hundreds. Also u got the fact that millions of people have chosen that car to modify and work on themselves. Good luck and have fun with it.

All you really need to do to an 88 DX is throw an aftermarket cold air intake on it and a nice set of cheap 16" wheels and tires and you car will be looking good for college. You could also throw in an aftermarket front bumper and and you could turn heads. Or if you are wanting more power you could do a V-Tec mini swap for like $400 bucks if you do it yourself. That's what I just got through doing to my 92 Hatchback.
