Water pumps usually have a small hole at the bottom called a weep hole. If it's leaking out of there, it's a good indicator that your water pump is about to fail. If you want a really good method of checking pull off your thermostat and start the car, if it's leaks out coolant that means your water pump is still working. Also water pumps usually fail at a little over a 100,000 miles.
