I'm looking to get 16" rims for my 98 Civic and new tires to go with them. I see a lot of people have 205-40-16, but I know on TireRack the recommended is 205-45-16 as that follows the same circumference from the original 14" wheels.































I see a lot of people using 40 sidewall and I googled it and found differing opinions. If I go down to 40, then I think that will mess up the speedometer, but so many people use this over the 45.































Also... I will be driving this car in Ohio, with snow and potholes. I figured that a 45 sidewall would be enough to still be somewhat "practical" as I can't afford summer and winter tires both. Is an all season 16" 45 sidewall going to be an ok idea?

Honda designed and engineered your car and suspension system to fit a specific tire and wheel combination. There are durability, safety and comfort reasons why you should never alter what is specified. I would go with whatever Honda recommends!

i have the same size rim you have, i have an accord tho. but it came with 15 inch rims just like a civic does. i have the 205/40/16 on aftermarket rims. you will feel the road a bit more and thats about it since its a thinner tire.the thinner tire makes the rim look better, especially if the car is lowered. if you still have the rims that came with the car, the stock rims, use them in the winter. i hope this helps

you are best to ask the honda dealer to be sure so you do not ruin your car.

peeps go 40 when then lower the car so it wont rub...but going 45 is not a problem....and would be better so you wont feel the road so much....
