I just bought this car and don't know the trim level. It was repainted and all emblems put back on except whether it is an EX or an LX. It has the VTEC 3.0 V6 with leather interior, automatic climate control, and sunroof. Totally loaded car, and would lead me to believe it is the EX. It only came with one single key, so I bought a FOB off ebay but it won't program. I do have an aftermarket stereo in it that I installed myself, nothing special. I came across instructions online for dealer installed keyless entry, that would mount it under the steering wheel, behind the dash. There is nothing there. I do, however, have a theft deterrent light next to the lock on the driver's door that is OE. Do I have keyless entry, or not? I was told it was standard on all EX's and optional on LX's after '99. Is this linked to the radio? I know I can go to the dealer or an audio shop and find out, and I will... but can somebody give me some idea's?
Honda guy, that is exactly what I did, as programming instructions came with the FOB. Can you tell me where to find the reciever so I can physically look to see if it is there? The FOB is used and was specified as a '98 / '99, not '00 / '01. I am contacting the seller as we speak, but what else can I do to narrow the issue down to the FOB? I don't want to look like a fool if this ends up being another one of my "dumbass" moments. |

you should have the EX if you have the V-6 and leather.
I don't know how you tried to program the transmitter. you don't need to have the original radio to program the transmitter (that was on the earlier models.) also, you need the right transmitter or it won't program. The 1998-1999 transmitters were the same; the 2000-2002 are different. they are not interchangagle. here's the procedure to program your remote. it should work. ? You must complete steps 1?6 within 4 seconds of the previous step to keep the system from exiting the programming mode. 1. Turn the ignition switch to ON 2. Press the ?Lock? or ?Unlock? button on one of the transmitters. (An unprogrammed transmitter can be used for this step.) 3. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0). 4. Repeat steps 1, 2, and 3 two more times using the same transmitter used in step 2. 5. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II). 6. Press the ?Lock? or ?Unlock? button on the same transmitter. Make sure the power door locks cycle to confirm that the system is in programming mode. 7. If you are programming more than one remote, then Within 10 seconds, press the ?Lock? or ?Unlock? button on the other transmitter. Make sure the power door locks cycle after you press each transmitter button to confirm that the system accepted the transmitter?s code. (If your are only doing 1 transmitter, skip step 7) 8. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0) to exit the programming mode. Hope that helps |
