Default 1990 Accord CEL code 43

Hey guys I have checked every website I can find including a search here.

Here is a typical thread on the subject:
91 Accord EX Code 43?

Every problem I've ever had with this car has been well documented by other owners. Why then has this code 43 problem stumped so many people? The number of people searching with no answer is amazing. The answers are always "probably" or "maybe" or "check this" ...but never "oh I've seen this a dozen times and here's the solution".

Even my mechanic of 12 years (a Honda tech) is stumped. He said the same thing everyone else says "replace the O2 sensor" ...and I got the same results as everyone else ...no change.

My CEL code 43 comes on after warm-up, just like everyone else. I have lower gas mileage, just like everyone else. The car stalls very rarely, just like everyone else. Anyone who can solve this mystery once and for all will be a lifesaver to a lot of people.

Default Re: 1990 Accord CEL code 43

Problem solved.

This whole problem was caused by a failing ignition switch. Apparently the bad contacts somehow caused a short in the O2 circuit. The occasional stalls were caused by the worn contacts threatening to turn off the engine. The switch finally fried itself out filling the car with a burnt electrical smell and refused to crank at all.

It took me 15 minutes to replace the ignition switch. After that ...no more CEL. No more code 43. No more stalls. The lower mileage is caused by something else. The Honda techs that regularly service the car kept saying it was a bad O2 sensor even after they had recently replaced it. They never suspected the ignition switch.
