if the vehicle was not in an accident and the SRS light just came on then the problem is that the on-board diagnostic system that runs a self-check each time the car is started detected a problem with one of the circuits or components in the Supplemental Restraint System. there are about 40 reasons why the light could come on, however there is a high probability it s illuminated for one of two reasons.

the first is a problem with the OPDS or Occupant Presence Detection Sensor. that sensor detects when someone is sitting in the passenger seat and the input is used to adjust the force at which the passenger side air bag is deployed. if the person in the seat is smaller the airbag goes off with less force.

the second possibility is that the switch in the seat belt that "tells' the SRS control unit that you have the seat belts on is defective.

both of these itsms were common failurs. Honda extended warranties c over both. the OPDS warranty was extended to 10 years or 157,500 miles. the seat belt buckle has a lifetime warranty from Honda.

so take your car to a honda dealer and have them download the diagnostic trouble code that tells them what circuit or component is causing the light to come on. if it is one of the above they will repair the car at no charge to you. if it is something else you can decide if you want to pay them for the rest of the diagnosis then make a decision on whether or not you want them to do the repair

hope that helps

Default Re: Honda Accord 2000 SRS Light is On?

Sorry, if am not doing this correctly, but my problem pertains to the same subject and I am new to forums and how they work. The side impact light on my daughter's 2001 Accord came on lastnight. I read Honda Guy's response to the original post, but I want to make sure I understand what he is saying. My daughter just got this car lastnight. She had a meeting and placed her laptop on the front passenger seat. Could this have caused the light to come on?? Also, the car has 160,000 miles on it (85,000 miles on the V6 engine). Am I out of luck on getting the dealer to make the necessary repairs Honda Guy mentioned?

Thanks in advance and great site! I just found it.
