Default Honda Civic Engine???

Okay I have about 3000 to spend. I was wondering which engine would be best for a 96 Honda Civic. Or should i just save up for another car?

Not sure where your from, but here in CALI. Honda's are the #1 car being stolen right now. Id just sell and buy another car man, 3k in a motor is going to hurt when that car gets stolen:P

im hoping ur keeping that 96 civic in ur garage cuz civics in that year get stolen very frequently , u could save up for a better newer car instead, or save up a little more to get a b18c engine for around 3500, just make sure u keep ur car safe!

a civic can be fast given some spending so id recommend keeping it.

not sure if you mean 3000 or $, so ill recommend the two most common swaps.

depending on your current car, the 96 vti's (sir in states) come with the B16A2 engine already, so if so disregard this! if its a 1.4 though the B16A2 swap is pretty strait forward, its a 1.6 DOHC VTEC and fits strait onto original engine mounts. it puts out 160bhp standard and is easily tunable. you can pick up a B16 from anywhere from 400-1000 and will give car 0-60 time of mid-early 7 secs. you will need wiring loom, ecu and gearbox if you havent already got VTEC.

you can also go for the 1.8 B18C1 out of an integra type-r, although may break budget it makes for mad performance( trust me, ive been in a 98 civic with it done!) a decent B18 will set you back around 800 or more, it puts out 195bhp and revs to about 8500rpm. you should strengthen engine mounts for this, but dont have to, also gearbox will need changing. 0-60 time should be in the 6 sec bracket (less with tuning)

there are plenty other swaps people do aswell, H22A (honda prelude sir) K20A (civic ep3 type-r) B16B(98 civic type-r) and more!

with any of these engines you will have a fast car and VTEC engines are fantastic, the sound of VTEC kicking in is addictive!

It depends on what engine you have in the car now. If it has a Vtec engine just re-build it and you'll be fine.

You can do a re-build for under $3000 and you get a great car with no car payments....
