Default Whats wrong with my transmission 10points?

sorry its an auto

I have a 96 accord with 90k miles only. I was driving back from work and my transmission was stuck in 3rd gear, I pushed the gas to the floor and it would not change, just not do anything. So I pulled over, shut the car off, and started it again and was fine..... What could that of been?

Will give 10points for best answer, thank in advance

Assuming this is a standard transmission. You did not mention if the clutch would disengage the transmission so you could 'coast' while in gear. If not, then you may have a clutch problem. I believe it is a hydraulic clutch. Check your fluid level on the clutch master Cylinder which should be on the firewall just above the steering column in the engine compartment. If it is low use brake fluid to fill. You should be able to see the clutch lever actuate the clutch if you look under the vehicle with a light and have someone push the clutch pedel down. If you are typically aggresive and violent when you shift your transmission you may just need a new transmission for a $1,000 or so.

Sound like your trans is due to change the fluid and have a trans shop do a road test to make sure the trans is not failing on you...

Ditto on the transmission fluid. But I would go one farther. I had a similar problem with the automatic in one of my chevy trucks. ended up the filter was clogging and therefore not enough pressure to change gears properly.

You can do it yourself, but the $100 is not much to have the transmission drained, filter replaced, and the transmission refilled.

most likely an intermittantly sticking transmission solenoid(valve). change the transmission fluid. there is no filter to change. if it continues, you may need a new solenoid, or a transmission. these are pretty reliable, though.
