I have a 1992 4dr Civic DX and about a month ago the A/C quit blowing cold air, it just blew warm air. Upon tinkering around I figured out that the A/C clutch wasn't engaging. When I move the A/C switch to max, the RPM's change and the blower motor comes on, but the clutch stays disengaged. I checked with a voltmeter for power going to the relay for the clutch, and there was power going to the relay. The wires from the relay go to a little nickel sized black thing (I'm guessing the coil?) and from there they go down into the clutch, so there isn't really a spot to test for voltage past the relay. I'm not sure what to do from here. Since the wires from the black thing (coil?) disappear and go down into the clutch, do I need to pull the clutch off no matter what I do? Is replacing the coil an option? How would I know the coil is the culprit? I need guidance!Please help!
