I'm just trying to estimate if I buy a new civic now and then sell it to someone after 3 years and 36k how much can I expect to get back? Let's say MSRP is $18000 now.

About $14,000. Honda's, especially civic's have a great resale value.

Honda finance uses a figure of 63% of the retail value as their lease residual on a 3 year lease. to get an idea of what the car will be worth in 3 years multiply the retail price of the car with the options, including a service contract if you are buying one by 0.63. That will give you a pretty realistic resale price. if you don't buy the HondaCare service contract then don't add it into the calculation. That service contract has value to the second owner as it is transferrable and that's why you can add it to the value of the car when doing the calculation.hope that helps
