Default Can I downshift my LS Vtec motor Civic si without even letting off of the gas? when i let off...

...gas car jumps? i just learned manual thats why i dont knowlike when im trying to race someone on the highway and im already in 5th gear do i just push in the clutch without even letting my foot off the gas then put it in 3rd and release the clutch really fast? (without even letting my foot off the gas the entire time). ive been leting off the gas and shifting but when im doing this theres like a pause and it kinda jumps. im having trouble doing this as i just got the car.in addition to the totally built motor (which is capable of revving up to 9,000 rpm) it also has an aftermarket racing clutch and flywheel. please explain in detail step by step how i do this thanks.

Yes you can but its all in your clutch work , that's why your cars jumping. You don't have to change the gas at all. Drag cars don't let off the gas to shift when downshifting, naturally your car wants to stay at the speed that it would be at that many rpm's. so when downshifting you do not let off the gas at all unless trying to stop. So, when racing at interstate speeds and you want to downshift put the gas to the floor, and then press the clutch to shift and the rpms will spike up, shift, then release the clutch. Don't take your foot off the gas when drag racing. the only jump you'll get is a fast forward one. and practice before you try racing. Good Luck and have fun

You should rev match your rpms if you are going to downshift. For example:Your car @ 40mph in second gear your rpms are at 6,500rpm.If you are driving on 4th geat when your RPM are 3,500rpm and you need to downshift to 2nd gear you should first press the clutch, then gas to rev your car to 6,500rpm then shift into 2nd, release your clutch. Just do all this fast and your car will not jump when you downshift.
