why did you buy the car if it was blowing smoke?that just screams, " I was beat on..." and yet you bought the car anyway?I wouldn't have given that car a 2nd glance unless the price was like 10 percent of book... AND the car was spotless the rest of the way. Think about it... if the engine was that badly beat on, then what else has been neglected on the car, that you arent seeing?

its a chance that it might be the rings or head gasket. thats what happen to one of my cars a lot of white bluish smoke and it was the head gasket. check your oil. if it looks like a mocha caramel color then its the head gasket. the previous owner enjoyed the car a little to much

do compression test, if it comes up low the retest with 1 teaspoon of atf in the cylinders and retest. if compression jumps back up then its compression rings/cylinder walls worn. if not, then its valve seals. if your compression numbers are normal, but smokes on cold startup, acceleration, or decel then its vavle guide seals.
