Default How much does replacing your fan belt cost?

The mechanic told me that I need to replace my fan belt and other stuff and It will cost me $500.00. Is it true that you need to get them replaced once the milege hit over 80,000 mileage? It's a honda accord.

your drive belts should be replaced every 60,000 miles, and only costs about $20.00, and takes two seconds to do so there should be no labor charged, hes ripping you off if thats what you need. Your Timing belt is supposed to be changed at 120,000 and will destroy your engine if it breaks, so get it done, not a day past the 120k. Timing belt will run you between $500 and $1200 depending on if you go to a small shop or the dealership. Im thinking thats what he told you to change due to the price quote.

timing belts are a bit more expensive due to the fact it has to be done exact, but the fan belt is very, very cheap and is insanely easy to put on. he is deffinately screwing you.

Typical fan belt on a Civic should be no more than $80-100 at a local shop. Timing belt w/water pump at the Honda dealer quoted $700. I had the local shop do it for less than $500. It should be done at 90K as opposed to 60K like the older ones.
