89 civic problems with efi?
Hi,
I have a Honda 89 civic with 189k miles, it's a blue beast but man it sure does get me from point a to b...well, it did.
I recently started having problems with what seemed to me as fuel delivery...stalled out under any load what so ever, uphill, over 25 mph, anything that required a decent amount of fuel consumption. I could put the car in park and rev the rpms up no problem but driving was another story. I put my little heart to the issue of fuel pump...(which in retrospect shouldn't have been my first stop along the way, but why not...i'm stupid enough right...) dropped the tank, replaced the little booger, now the car won't even start...so...
i have read alot about the main relay and it's tendency to develop cracks in the solder joints...i pulled it...resoldered the connections...it seems to operate fine (to my best understanding) one click when the ignition is turned from I to II...two second run for the fuel pump (i can hear it)...one click when that two seconds is up...and one click when i try to crank the engine...three clicks like it's sposed to do...
I replaced the fuel filter along with the pump, so i checked for fuel delivery to the injectors, i get fuel through the lines past the injectors and into the fuel return line after the fuel pressure regulation thingie...so it seems that there is fuel available to the throttle body but it's not getting into the injectors or the injectors aren't getting the signal to send fuel into the throttle body itself. I can spray starter fluid into the air intake and it will start until that burns up...so i know it can start (which leads me away from igniter and coil/rotor problems)...
all that to say i'm stumped... what am i missing and what can i check next?
I appreciate any help guys, thanks
john eric
