Well you have two options. You can go with a D Series engine or a B Series engine. I'll list the pros and cons of both.D Series = Dirt cheap, but minimal HP (125-127ish)B Series= A little more costly but you get more bang for your buck (160-185ish HP)If you go for a D series engine swap that would be the cheapest of them all. You can find a junkyard D16Z6 or a D16Y8 with about 50-80k miles on it for less then $650 bucks. The only thing you would need to get is the correct ECU and wiring harness to activate VTEC. Besides that the engine will drop right it. You can keep your stock transmission, motor mounts, axles, etc. The D16Z6 is from the 1992-1995 Honda Civic EX/Si with 125HP. The D16Y8 is from the 1996-2000 Honda Civic EX with 127HP.Now lets go on to the B series engines. The most common swap is for the B16A or the B18C1 engine. These engines run from about $1000 and up. The bad thing is that in order to drop these engines in your 91 Civic you will need to get B series motor mounts, ECU, transmission, axles, wiring harness for VTEC, and a few extra parts. The good thing though is that the B16A engine is from the 88-91 JDM Civic's so it will fit perfectly in your Civic. The B16A produces 160HP and the B18C engines can produce around 170HP.B series engine alone = $1000B Series engine + Transmission, Mounts, etc. = $2500 and upD Series Engine = $600-$800If you get a shop to drop the engine in for you expect to pay them about $500 and up. Usually these swaps can be completed with a couple buddies.

ok your going to have to do some wiring..but the easiest is going to be to get a B16a from a 90-91 civic/crx or integra but make sure you know which one youll be getting cuz they are a little different...but you will be looking at about 1200-2000 depending on what motor you want...these prices are based off the B16 and B18c
