Default Is it true that 2001 Honda Civic LX models do not have a transmission FILTER?

I went to get my oil changed today and also wanted to get my transmission fluid changed for the first time. I asked the guy if they also changed the transmission filter and he said no; he said they can only drain everything (including the filter) and replace the fluid. I was confused as to why he could drain a filter but not replace it, so I told him I'd look into it and come back or go elsewhere. Then five minutes later he came in to the waiting room and said that he remembered Honda's do not have transmission filters, only a magnet on the bottom plug to collect the gunk. Does this sound right or did he lie to me so that I'd get my transmission fluid changed there?

He is correct on your car.It should be changed every 30,000 milesDrive the vehicle to bring the transaxle fluid up to operating temperatures. Raise and safely support the front of the vehicle. Place a fluid catch pan under the transaxle. Remove the drain plug, located on the bottom of the transaxle housing, and drain the transaxle. Using a new washer, install the drain plug, and then tighten it to 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm). Fill the transaxle to the appropriate level with the recommended fluid. NOTE: DO NOT overfill the transaxle. Be sure that the quantity of fluid added is always slightly less than the specified quantity, due to the remaining fluid left in the transaxle housing recesses. Start the engine and allow to idle for at least a minute. With the parking brake set and the brakes depressed, move the gear selector through each position, ending in the Park or Neutral position. Check the fluid level and add just enough fluid to bring the level to 1⁄8 inch (3mm) below the ADD mark. Allow the engine to fully warm up to normal operating temperature, then check the fluid level. The fluid level should be in the HOT range. If not, add the proper amount of fluid to bring it up to that level. If the fluid level is within specifications, simply push the dipstick back into the filler tube completely. WARNING To avoid getting any dirt or water in the transaxle, always make sure the dipstick is fully seated in the tube.

Go to www.autozone.com and look it up - if they sell the part, it exists.(I took a look - AutoZone part # 044-0320, so your mechanic is a liar)

The shop simply drained and refilled mine. There is no exterior filter unlike my 2007 Subaru that has a screw on type. Not sure why the car is like this, but that's how it is done.
