I was wondering if anyone can help me and my boyfriend... we bought a 1992 honda civic as is...Went for 3 etests and have failed all three of them....... here are the reading we have failed on:HC ppm: 83 the drive clean limit is 82NO ppm: 986 the drive clean limit is 636can anyone give me some suggestions on how to get this to pass.. we really need it to passMmm, no idea where you do your work, but honda's do have egr valves

if the NOx is high then you need to look at the Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve (EGR Valve) as the cause. High Oxides of Nitrogen are formed when the combustion temperature is high. the EGR valve works by introducing burnt exhaust gasses into the incoming mixture to take up space (inert gasses won't burn again). that reduces the combustion temperature and NOx is reduced.on your engine the egr valve is on the top front of the engine/intake manifold on the passenger side. you'll see a vacuum hose leading to a brass dome that is under a black plastic connector box. that's the EGR valve. Check the hose to make sure its attached. if it vacuum hose is attached then the chances are you'll have to replace the valve and clean out the ports.HC is also related to high combustion chamber temperatures. HC can also be caused by incorrect ignition timing or by weak ignition components such as a worn distributor cap or plug wires. My guess is that the EGR valve will correct both problems.hope that helps

honda civics do not have egr valves,my experience has been the catalytic converters go bad and do not burn excess fuel hot enough.honda tech 10yrs.
