single over head cam means there is one cam operating both the intake and exhaust valves. dual means there is a cam running the intake valves and another cam running the exhaust. and for future reference.... try google image search

This is due to the fact that there are two camshafts. DOHC- Dual OverHead Camshafts; SOHC- Single Overhead Camshaft. It is exactly what it sounds like. A SOHC has a single camshaft, whereas a DOHC has dual (2) camshafts. The SOHC has 1 camshaft that controls both the intake and exhaust valves. The DOHC has a camshaft for the intake valves and another one for the exhaust valves.
