I have a 1996 civic Si COupe that has been acting up now, and im thinking of buying a new b16, maybe b18 engine and a new transmission, but i dont know if its VTEC and i dont want to buy the wrong engine, someone please help me, thank you.

If you are going to get a motor swap, the B16's and the B18C's are all vtec motors. You might even find a B17A, which is also vtec. The B18A's and B18B's are not vtec motors.

Thankz manm i appreciate it, what does the 777 stand for in ur name cuz i alwayz use that. I checked out that link u sent me for engines, but i dont see anything saying 1996 Civic Si. I think the engine in it now is a stock engine, on the side it said D15Y8. Im trying to modify my civic A LOT by summer time, any good suggestions?

The 16Y8 is a vtec motor.

Depending on how much money you want to spend should determine what you should do to your car. As a general rule of thumb, a N/A motor is the expensive way to go slow. Forced induction is the most bang for the buck. I have experience with B-series swaps, and I am pleased with the performance they have rendered.

A B16 into your EK wouldn't be that bad, considering the 99-00 had the B16's in the Si trim. Figure out a budget and go from there.
