...could it be? I would take apart the dash but not sure how hard it is to put back together. Thought it might be a speedo cable but heard its mechanical so beats me

if mechanical noise maybe speedo2 R U sure its not a exaust heat shield under hood?3 ive taken dashs apart...screw by screw..piece by peice lable everything and take digital picktures....

I had a noise like that once and it happened to be coins someone had put in the heater vent. They would move around any time I accelerated.

its your speedo.the fact that its mechanical is why its noisy,and its worn out.
