Depends on what your racing, and is the civic stock. If it is, the chassis is very good and can handle much more power as long as you upgrade the tire. I had a (back then) brand new 1999 civic as my second car with a stick shift. I had more fun driving that at full throttle then driving my friends BMW 520i which i couldn't. If you spend some cash in it, you could see some serious results, but if you leave it stock, make sure your only racing other stock civics.

to be honest a honda civic does not have a very powerful stock engine.if your looking for something cheap with power?depends what you consider cheap.EX: 2009 toyota camry SE V6 about 27,000that is quite powerful and they have Phonominal pick up.i suggest that happy car hunting

I dont really know what you mean by "racing car." But I have a 94 Civic hatch and i can put the throttle to the floor and with a 5 speed i have some fun with it. These cars are great for modification. They accept tons of parts and there are many aftermarket companies that sell parts specifically for civics. I would not try racing the car stock, i personally would put a motor swap in it. Maybe a B16a or B18c1 would do becuase they offer much more than the stock engine and also swap in fairly easily.

Alright the honest truth it they are not powerful when they're complitely stock, but by adding things like headers exhaust, cold air intake and stuff like that you'll get more power, sometimes even just getting the ecu chipped works,i have a 93 civic dx,and i have the stock d series motor,i have adjustable cams, injectors, bigger inteke manifold headders, full cat back exhaust and small turbo(only pushing 10LBS) and i smoke alot of v8's and some v10,i run 11.56 at the track,so i would say yeah and plus you can find parts for cheap and they're easy to fix
