Default Honda Odyssey 07 makes a noise whine/humming like noise after freeway driving - anyone else

experienced this? After driving my HO 2007 on the freeway I notice a constant hum/whine/vibration-like noise coming from the front-end. My husband (a mech engineer in the automotive industry) says it is the power steering pump. To date we are unable to duplicate this for the dealer, but will try again. Have any other Honda Odyssey 2007 owners experienced this problem? There was a TSB for the 2006 HO power steering pump, but not one for the 2007.

try topping off the power steering fluid. Your husband is on the right track.

the TSB applies to all 2005-2007 Odysseys. Here's the gist of what it saysSYMPTOMThe power steering pump whines, buzzes, or humsafter driving for 30 minutes in temperatures of 35 to40 degrees F (2 to 5 degrees C).PROBABLE CAUSEThe power steering pump reservoir is defective.CORRECTIVE ACTIONFlush the power steering system with clean powersteering fluid, then replace the power steeringreservoir.PARTS INFORMATIONPower Steering Reservoir:P/N 53701-SHJ-A01C1, H/C 9023672sounds like that is your problem. in the US the car is under warranty for 3 years or 36,000 miles. chances are you are within warranty and the repair will be done at no charge.looks like the reason your dealer can't duplicate the problem is time and temperature. they don't drive the car for 30 minutes because they have to pay someone to do that and Honda doesn't reimburse them for that tiem so they don't do the road test (loss of productive time). also, if the temperature is not in the range of 35-40F when they did do a road test then chances are the condition won't happen for them.take it to the dealer and ask them to perform the repairs per the TSBhope that helps

Default Re: Honda Odyssey 07 makes a noise whine/humming like noise after freeway driving - anyone else

I have had problems with my 06 Odyssey power steering for a while. Even though I thought the Power Steering option was standard, the version I got seems to be the Part Time Power Steering. It works just fine, until it doesn’t. Usually when I try to park and going at very low speeds. And then 5 minutes later, at similar parking speeds, it will work just fine.

Took the car in to Honda while still under warranty, they said they couldn’t find anything. I resolved to just go old school and do without the power steering when the car felt it appropriate to withhold it’s services.

Now I’m out of warranty. Worse, my engine started humming. That’s how I came across this posting, I have the problem described above by livnrn.

My first question is what is a TSB? I assume it’s a technical service bulletin. If that’s the case, shouldn’t Honda have known about this when I took my car in with power steering concerns? Can anyone help me find the link to the TSB mentioned by livnrn?

My second question is given my other power steering issue, would the solution recommended by Honda Guy (Flush the power steering system with clean powersteering fluid, then replace the power steeringreservoir) work for me or do you think I would need to replace the entire power steering unit?
Thanks for your help!

I had something similar to this---load humming noise when driving at freeway speeds. Turned out that it was a cracked wheel bearing. I have a 2007 Odyssey with about 50K miles. Thankfully it was covered by the 60K Powertrain Warranty.
