93 Honda Civic speedometer is working sporadically. What could be the problem?

If it is a dial speedometer, it is probably the cable is either loose as it enters the transmission, broke somewhere within its tube from the transmission to the speedometer or loose at the speedometer. I will bet broke.So it all case sometimes it is catching and turning and sometimes not turning.

Its the VSS sensor located on your tranmission, 93 civics's did not have a cable. The speedometers are sensor driven not cable.
