I lost the owner's manual. I got 30k service. Now I'm getting letters from dealer that I need 40k service. I called the dealer twice. The first time they said I need 40k service ($200). The second time they said all I needed was a 37k brake inspection/oil change ($90) & then I need a 45k service (not a 40k). I don't want to get ripped off if I don't need the service but I also don't want to mess up my car by skipping something important. Anyone out there a Honda tech that knows about this?

It is a Honda..basically all you need to do to it is put gas in it and change the oil. Unless you have the deal where you have to get all of your maintenance done there I wouldn't do it. I've never had mine serviced and it is a 02. I purchased it with 35,800 miles on it and my dad changes the oil and everything else. I'm now up to over 104,000 miles and my maintenance required light is on and won't go off, only because it is set to have a timing belt changed and hoses changed which is going to be over $500 if I have it done there. If you can find someone or know someone else to do it for you I would. It isn't necessary to have it serviced every 10 thousand or more miles, dealers just want more money in their pockets and charge way too much. If you do have it serviced there ask them for a discount, they will usually knock the price down if you ask! You won't mess anything up as long as you keep your oil changed and timing belts aren't required until around 100,000 miles!

as long as you change the oil and filter every 3000k and rotate the tires every 6000k you will be okay, i do think you should do the recommended service at 45k then at 60k (the bigger ones) find a local shop to do them you dont need to go to dealer they just charge to much and try to sell you s*** you dont need. / honda tech 9yrs.

Please do consider this options.Check your engines oil. if its already black in color you need to replace engine's oil even if it's not et sticky. That is a new car and i'm sure fragments from your piston ring are mixed in oil.
