Thank you.p.s. I physically turn it on by pushing a little button with my thumb. Am I supposed to just leave it on, and let the car use it when it wants to?I am terrible at this stuff!!!

It should turn overdrive off. It is usually needed for towing or driving in mountains. The main thing it will do is change the shift points. It will stay in gear a little longer while up shifting(helps to keep the engine in the power band longer) and will also stay in gear a little longer when downshifting(this reduces the strain on the brakes). But just normal driving you do not really need it.

It simply prevents the car from going into the highest gear [the overdrive gear]. So if you have a four speed automatic it will only shift into 3rd gear when overdrive is turned off.Push the button once to turn off overdrive and push it again to turn on overdrive/shift back into 4th[or 5th if you have a 5 speed automatic].Read the owner's manual sometime. Lot's of good stuff in there.Find online owner's manuals here https://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/...01_OMANUAL.asp
