Civic Shifter Cable Question
Hello,
I have a 97 civic that I purchased this summer to get me through the end of school. The shifter can be stiff to move through reverse so I had the transmission fluid changed. This seemed to help a little. It has never been so stiff as it has been very hard to move, but stiff enough to notice. Through the other gears it is loose. Today I took it in to have my ignition wires and spark plugs changed. They just called me to say that they noticed the shifter was stiff and that the cause of this was the shifter cable. The cost to fix this (my understanding that it is a replacement) is $475.
Does anyone know about this issue? What happens if I don't fix it and it breaks? I really only need the car for another 18 months, so I don't want to go pouring money into it. $475 is a lot for something that doesn't really bother me, but I don't want to ignore it and it turn into a bigger issue, or for it to be potentially dangerous. I also don't want to get ripped off by the dealer.
Thank you!!
