I have a 1997 Honda Accord. VTEC engine. I want to upgrade the ECU to get better performance, but i have a bunch of questions.1) Would i need to buy a whole new ECU or can i adapt to the stock one?2) Would i need to have it tuned by a professional car shop or are there models available that have preset settings for my car?3) Is there an ECU upgrade that isn't ridiculously expensive?4) Will it really help with performance?5) Is it a difficult install or could i do it myself?6) Are there any specific things i would need to know regarding admission testing or street legal things?7) I have been looking at the hondata but there really isn't info on installing or connecting or tuning. Has anyone installed this before and how does it work?8) Does the upgrade mean a new ECU box or is it simply a chip that will plug into the existing board?9) Are there any other general things i may need to know about upgrading the ECU?If there are any websites that explain all that i may need to know that would be great.Thanks in advance!I have an ungraded intake and exhaust already.

1. use the stock one2. look for superchips programmers for your vehicle3. do some research4. repeat numbers 2 and 35. repeat number 36. your car is trying to get into school? admission testing?7. i've chipped diesel pickups and it will walk you through the process8. repeat number 29. its expensive and its hard to squeeze out much more power of a gas motor unless you let it breathe easier first (intake, exhaust)

U must send ur ecu out or have a tunin shop do it for u. but since ur motor is stock u wouldnt get any performance outta it. stock ecu is programmed well enough. it is not something u can do by urself

it wouldn't help much unless u add some kind of turbo to it. therefore u need to either swap the engine or rebuild it. u can get turbo kits online but regardless of what u do it will still be expensive.
