Default What are the possible causes for a car to die in cold weather?

Today is a cold day in Houston TX. I went to get a Budweiser 24Oz, to the nearest Shell station which is a block away. I got out and try to start my car and found out its totally dead. I also noticed that my dashboard lights are really dim. I tried a jump start and this time my dash board lights are bright. But still my car does not start. When I disconnect from Jump start.. lights are again dimmed. I just towed my car home, and its 11.30 pm now.It seemed really odd to me how a car could go bad just like that. Need some help in figuring out what could it be, before going to Auto Zone first thing tomorrow.

Alternator! If it was the battery it would have started with a jump. the alternator is what charges the battery. i had this problem on my honda civic. good luck. O and the cold can make allot of things go out on a car. My starter just went out for the second time in a year and half.
