Default 97 honda civic promplem?

i was driving my car it has 127,000 miles and the engine light came on and it would not go over 40 mphs and i felt like it was stick in gear u think i need new transmission or what is it worth it

If its an automatic, its probably having shifting problems.

well its ahrd to say what wrong from that information but my suggestion is first find out why the check engine light is on... also find out if that would solve the not going over 40 mph problem... also transmissions for civics are not too expensive especially if its the smallr motor you can find used ones for like 500 but it really depends on condition...

If your car is an automatic transmission, the solenoids responsible for automatically shifting your transmission to higher gears may have gone bad.Go to your local auto parts store and buy or borrow an OnBoard Diagnostic Scanner (OBD II). Plug the cable to an interface under your driver's side dashboard, restart your ignition, and repost your question back with the error code associated with your engine light. This will give you a better idea on what the problem may be.Good luck!
