Shouldn't make much of a difference. You can control the shift point more yourself this way but it's an automatic transmission so it will shift by itself any way. And when you mash the pedal while driving the trans should downshift anyway.

Your transmission is set up for maximum performance by leaving it in d4 and letting it decide when to shift.

you can do anything you want to your car...but be aware that an AUTO tranny doesn't NEED to be shifted, thats why it's an AUTO. If you wanted a std shift car you should have bought one, as it is, if you keep shifting your AUTO tranny you WILL be buying a new tranny, probably sooner than later.

It won't make the slightest difference at all. All you're telling your transmission is that you don't want it to shift into 4th gear. That's it.

I do it all the time. D3 will only shift from 1st gear to 3rd gear only. It will not go any further. D3 is mainly used for engine braking. You can leave it in D4 then just floor it and let the tranny decide or just put it in D3 and go from 5th gear straight to 3rd gear.

While you're at top speed, drop it into reverse.

When going 80+ you put it in "R" for race mode.
