If i buy the 1996 Honda Civic CXi that I'm looking at, but i wish to swap the engine for one with VTEC, which version am i after? Would it be a B16A? Im really after a list of the VTEC engines that will fit into the car.thanks for the answers so far guys.any recommendations? which would provide more power for the beast-to-be?the engine found in the car at the moment is a D16Y4 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_D_engine) but it doesn't state what transmission type is used. The B16A uses S4C or Y21. The B16B uses S4C. The B18C1 uses s80. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_B_engine)Don't have the most knowledge on what all of this means, but I'm doing research and part of it is asking people who know more than I do.please give me lots of info.. and type slowly so i can understand it better :Pcheers

Civic- B16A B16BIntegra- B18B (LS engine-not a VTEC but can have the head swapped to a VTEC) B18C1/C5CRV- B20B/Z (big torque but not a VTEC, but can have the head swapped to a VTEC head) All of these engines will fit in a Civic. Also consider the K20 family engines from the newer gen Civics as well.Update: Going with an H22 (from a Prelude or Accord Type R) will make your lightweight Civic a great drag car, but handling will suffer. The problem is the H22 is a large and heavy engine. It will make your Civic front heavy to the point that you will actually feel it. There isn't a suspension kit that will make the handling any good with an H22 in a Civic either. To fit an H22 under the hood takes a lot of work (and I mean a lot) plus if you're a fan of A/C, forget it. An H22 under the hood of your Civic leaves no room for A/C.

‘B’ engines are something in the past. More people who drive civics are going for something more powerful engines.Very commonly, people swap their engines from the Accord models. I recommend a H22A7 engine. Same one used in the European Honda Accord Type-R. Very reliable, makes a sexy noise and very powerful. It would fit in your car but I think something would be needed to be done to your transmission to accommodate that power.

You would probably want the B18C1, that's the GSR, they've been dropping in price so they're more affordable. It has a good amount of torque and horsepower. The B16A is a good engine as well, but the bigger displacement and higher compression makes the GSR better. As for a B16B, that's the Civic Type R engine, only available in japan. Very expensive.Go here for all your Honda Engine needs: http://hmotorsonline.com/With whatever swap you go with your going to need a new ecu, axles and motor mounts.

B16's are weak go with a B18 or bigger. Trust me dude that motor is not all that, it's just a long over due hype. I didn't mean to bust your bubble there. Do your research look at the stock Hp and Power ratings. You could figure that out. Be more patient when it comes to swaps choose wisely and don't be in a hurry especially if you don't know what the hell you're doing. Good Luck...
