Default Alloy wheels and Michigan winters

Should I avoid getting alloy wheels on a new Honda Fit because I live in Michigan and the winters can be severe?

I've read that alloy is more vulnerable to corrosion causing the tires to leak air. Steel would hold up much better.

I wanted to get the package with cruise control etc, but it only comes with alloy wheels. Does anyone have any experiences they can share about this?
