Boost would give you more power. but not as reliable. Swap is alittle less power but more reliable. Good luck..

both are gonna blow on you sooner or later but if your looking for fun thats gonna last more than 6 months, swap is the way to go and your gonna spend more on boosting your single it still has to be tuned you can't just slap on a turbo unless you want your car to run like crap and dyno's are not cheap!

This isnt quite answering your question, but its more so advice. I personally feel a Turbocharge is in your best interest. However, build the internals and block up first. I encourage you not to just buy a turbo and plop it in there like almost everyone does around here. You must also consider that turbos require oil, and maintenance. Not to mention that anything giving more power will give a certian percentage of wear on the tranny. If you wanna do the job right, bulletproof the engine and tranny, then get into the fun parts : ) . People can flame me or call me wrong I dont care. Its MY opinion and im just trying to help!!!

Actually the swap is cheaper. A quality turbo kit will be between $3,500 and $4,500 for your car and another $1,500+ to install. The swap you would want is a B18C1, it can be bought and installed for about $3,500. Now as far as power goes on 8psi the D16Y8 puts out about 175 HP at the wheels and the B18C1 will put out about 150 . Now consider the future also, if you turbo the D16Y8, at 8 psi its power potential is maxed out. The B18C1 will still be stock. To get more power from the D16Y8 you would have completely rebuild it with forged internals, while the cost of that would be greater than turboing the stock B18C1 and getting 250 WHP from it, and the D16Y8 will get about 225 on a mild build which will cost about the same and the turbo for the B-series.

I commute, go to school and have a normal college type of job, and I spend all my money on a b18c5 swap with lsd tranny. I still average 28 mpg and I can trust it to be reliable, not as much hassle as turbo, or boost, or supercharger whatever might be.Plus I school other cars on the road. As stupid and immature as that sounds it is still fun.

any time you consider boosting a car the one thing that always worries me is turbo lag. that's when you hit the gas but you don't get the power right away, because the turbo has to spool up to create the extra ponies. when i hit the gas i want the power immediately. there was a great article in Super Street called Boost vs NA.
