Default Mechanical Car Question for a 1990 Honda Accord? Please Help?

My Honda drives pretty good, the only problem is, sometimes when I am accelerating it seems to slow down and almost lose accelertion then if I get off the Gas and press it again it goes then it starts to lose acceleration again. It does this sometimes only once or sometimes 3 or 4 minutes then it'll go back to driving regular. Does anyone know what this could maybe be?I know it is kinda vague but that is what its doing, You are on the Gas driving then all of a sudden you just start slowing down and it kinda hesitates some, then you get off and press the gas again and it goes and does it again. Any help will be appreciated. The Check Engine Light has come on...It does not stay on but it does flash on.

Without any testing I can give you a partial list. Fuel pump getting weak, clogged fuel filter, it could even be a partial loss of spark problem. Is the check engine light coming on?

Your description is a classic description of a restricted catalytic converter or exhaust system.when your car bogs down do you notice any change in the sound of the engine? Does it seem to "roar" as its slowing down? If you hear a muffled roaring noise then your catalytic converter is restrictedDoes the condition only happen once the car is warmed up to normal operating temperture or does it happen when cold as well? Catalytic converters will start to 'melt down' when the engine is up to temperature. they won't generally act up on a cold engineDoes this happen every time you drive the car? At what speeds are you driving when it happens or does it happen at all speeds? if you put the car in Neutral will the engine rev up or is it as though the car has a governor on it?Is the car manual or automatic transmission? The two most common causes of that condition are an igintion coil that is breaking down (internal short circuit) or a catalytic convertor that is melting down. if you drive the car at night and it happens, pull over to the side of the road and look at the exhaust under the center of the car (look under the car from the driver's door inward). If you see the exhaust glowing then you have a bad converter.hope that helps

Default Re: Mechanical Car Question for a 1990 Honda Accord? Please Help?

my car did the exact same thing a few weeks ago for a long time. i pulled the codes and it said it was the fuel supply system. which means it is either running too rich or too lean, and depending on what temp the car is at when it happens you can narrow it down. if it only happens when the car gets warm or up to operating temp you are running too lean. this could be clogged fuel filter, faultly fuel pump, or o2 sensor malfunction. hope this helps
