ALWAYS follow the manual! Do exactly what it says with no deviation. The engineers took everything into consideration when they designed the car.

BG products work great. If you are nervous, just bring it to an automotive shop.

Stick with conventional oil at the viscosity listed in the manual... likely 5w30.You have the option of using synthetic oil, but honestly for a car that old it's not worth it anymore, and sometimes synthetic will cause problems on high mileage engines.Keeping up on your oil changes is more important than using synthetic at this point in your engine's life.If you're concerned about making it run better, you're much better off making sure your spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor, PCV valve, and fuel filter are all in proper working order. It doesn't hurt to clean your throttle body either, but that's usually for people who know how to disassemble the intake.Running a product called Seafoam through your fuel system may also help.

I have an 01 Civic EX Coupe, and 5w20 is what both the Honda Dealership and all the others put in the car (Jiffy Lube, Grease Monkey, ect... )
