Default 2002 CR-V transmission trouble...?

Just bought the vehicle with 91,000+ miles. [As Is with no wqarranty] Shortly after I noticed some transmission shudder. There is also a bit of a whine in OD.I changed the fluid twice using Honda's own brand. The old fluid did look brown and it obviously needed a change.Haven't noticed any definite shuddering since but today the "D" (drive) indicator light started flashing on the way to the market, indicating a tranny problem. On the way home it was normal.Any idea of what could be wrong? What is the worse case and best case scenarios? I borrowed some extra cash when I bought the vehicle just in case of a problem. If the tranny ended up needing major repair would you recommend a fix or replacing with new or rebuilt. I was thinking of going to Aamco and paying the high price for the lifetime warranty if it came to that since I just bought the vehicle and plan on keeping it for quite a while.Oh yeah. It is automatic. Also if I end up replacing the tranny, will a five speed automatic fit in place of my 4 speed automatic?Check engine light is NOT onI would go to Autozone for code reading before going to Aamco since they are closer by but still a drive. If the check engine light is not on, would there still be a code to read?honda guySince you say that transmission failures on the CRV are uncommon, I guess I would look for a good used tranny before going to Aamco especially after reading all the negative stuff about Aamco on the web.

the flashing D light can mean any number of things; it is typically for a failed signal from an electrical component or sensor that is detected during the system self diagnosis. Things that can cause the D light to flash are usually the vehicle speed sensor, a shift solenoid or a range selector switch. All are relatively inexpensive versus the cost of replacing the transmission. Is the Check Engine light on as well or only the D light? If the check engine light is on the problem is usually more serious such as a slipping transmission due to internal problems.Instead of guessing and speculating, take your car to AAMCO--they advertise that they will pull the diagnostic trouble code at no charge. Get the code and we'll have more to go on to determine what circuit or component is involved. I'm sure AAMCO will try to sell you a diagnostic service but just tell them that you've done the fluid changes and that you just want to know what the code is. Autozone parts stores will also pull the code for free.not knowing the history on the vehicle I can't say what the condition is; I can say from experience that transmission failures on the CRV are uncommon. Its usually a shift valve or speed sensor.hope that helps

there is no such thing as a good rebuilt honda automatic transmission that comes from anyone other than honda.Honda dealers don't even rebuild the trannys in-house....they get remans from the warehouse, and send the old ones back to oklahoma city or sidney ohio.i don't know of any 5 speed automatics that will bolt up to the motor in your CR-V. you could convert the chassis to a 5 speed manual, but it's a bunch of work, and all the manuals from that generation are 4WDs.
