Default 1990 accord ex erractic idle in park

hey can anyone give me some insight. i have a 1990 honda accord ex w/2.2l f22a4 engine. i have done everything i can possible. i have changed the ignition coil, cap and rotor, wires, plugs, taken the intake of and soaked it to get all the carbon and trash out of it. i have also have tested and checked all of the sensors to see if they checked out. i have went by the forum about other cars with the problem and have cleaned the iacv and the fitv. i have taken and change out the map sensor and the egr solenoid along with changing out the egr valve. the car still wants to idle erractic and sounds like it wants to miss. throw it in gear and it wants to die along with turning on the a/c. please help me i want to this car on the road.

Default Re: 1990 accord ex erractic idle in park

I had an erratic idle problem in my 1990 DX and I simply took the top off the IAC and cleaned it out. Now, the idle problem is gone. However, my idle problem was the engine loping (pulsing from 1000rpms to 2000rpms until it got warm). Your problem sounds a little like just a plain lack of power. Does your speedometer work properly? If it's jumping around while driving, replace the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS), this also causes poor engine performance as it communicates with the computer system. What about exhaust? Is your catalytic converter clogged? Have you checked the timing? I'm sure you did but did you make sure the distributor cap was installed in the right position? Also consider replacing the PCV Valve (about $1.35 at Auto Zone).
Other than that, I might consider taking it somewhere and having a professional take a look at it.

Smile Re: 1990 accord ex erractic idle in park

My man i had a similar problem. In park, the car (1990 accord) would throttle high and low repeatedly, cold, warm, tropical, arctic. I cleaned out the IACV with carb cleaner as suggested in a previous tread. That half solved my problem. Now my car wouldnt throttle high and low, it would just kind of hum repededly in a manner consistent with the original problem. Then I took the very good advice of removing the cap to the FITV and tightened it down (if the cap wasnt on there that mug wouldve been long gone). Since then, no idle problems, car breaks, runs phenomenal, considering its a 1990. If you have this problem, this fix will take an hour of your time at most and my cost: $1.36 for carb cleaner at walmart. I appreciate all of you who posted solutions to this problem and I hope this helps anyone who has this EXTREMELY frustrating problem. Honda tried to tell me it was a faulty IACV and the cost to replace was 300 plus labor. **** that bullshit, these people on this site know their shit. Thank you sooooo much for taking the time and effort to explain this stuff to those of us who dont know too much about diagnostics.
