Default 02' honda regulator cable broke

do i have to replace the whole regulator or can i just replace the cable; I really don't know anything about cars, i'm just cheap so I tried to see if it is something I can do myself. I pulled the door panel off and noticed that the metal door frame doesn't look like it can be pulled off: right or wrong? If anybody has any advice or tips, please fill me in.
