Vehicle starts no prob.
Engine runs.... although VERY rough. The belts or pulleys no longer spin. My power steering quit on me. Battery light is on. If it were a timing belt failure.. would the engine still run? Please help me hondacarforum! |

Could be loose belt or missing cotter pin on the crankshaft pulley. A bad bearing in an accessory or the idler/tensioner would make the belt squeal unless again it's real loose..

If it's as simple as a cotter pin than that would be a very inexpensive repair.
But could it also be a crankshaft pulley failure? If so roughly what would it cost to replace or repair?? |

Are you able to fix it? If so, take the timing cover off and
check it. If not this is a shop fix. Best to call your favorite shop for an estimate. If you don't have a shop, ask around. This could be just a cotter pin, but you could do major damage to continue to run it. ![]() Did it just happen, or were you driving? OK to PM.

There is no Cotter key on the crank however there is a WOODRUFF key that can get deformed or the groove it sits in can get damaged.
I have seen this happen on a friends car. He was able to put JB weld in the hole, insert a new woodruff key in there. Bolt the damper back on and then waited a day for the JB weld to fully set. Lasted quite a while for him before he sold the car. Definitely not the ultimate way to fix it but definitely a way to fix it for a poor college kid etc. Good luck |

If this goes while driving, you most likely will ruin your engine!

However if the keyway is chipped out on the crank, I stand by advice on the JB weld. Good Luck |

That crank is made of harder material, than the pulley.
If the crank keyway is sloppy, well, what does that tell you? I would think of a miss-treated engine.
