you can get 17"x7'-7.5" rims in there without any modifications or problems. Then the tires will probably be 205/40/17...I never have seen any problems with rubbing or causing issues besides a little less MPG with 17" rims on civics of that generationI have seen 18" rims on civics, but they do tend to cause some rubbing issues, and the tires will be of too low of a profile leading to easily denting/bending the rim.
