Default buying a honda with over 130k miles...?

Im 16 years old and ill soon be 17 which means ill have my provisional license and ill need my own car. I was thinking about getting a honda civic ex with 130k miles on it. It looks pretty decent but i heard that you need to change some things like timing belt and some other stuff. What do i need to do the first thing i buy a car?

A tbelt and water pump wouldnt be a bad idea, unless it was already done, Hondas are still like new if maintained at 200k miles.......

Owww it has 130k miles? thats too much. If you want a decent car get it with 20-50k mileage. 130k is way too much. if i were you i would get a certified preowned toyota if you havent owned a car yet.Btw when you get to 23 get a shelby GT car i have a GT1500KR. Best ride in my life

Well its up to you. A honda is a wonderful car. A honda well maintained will run great at 130k miles. However, there will be parts that you need to replace all the time just becase over time things get over used. At 130k miles you do lose a bit of reliability(who knows who owned and and how the past owner took care of the car? That is a HUGE factor). You might have to spend hundreds to thousands keeping up with the car. If I were you I would just buy a newer car. Probably certified honda from a dealer or even a CIVIC DX or a HONDA FIT! Its less than 15k. If youre parents are willing to help you out, that would be the best bet to go. You dont want to be 17 and stuck in the middle of the freeway because something gave out, you know what I mean? Goodluck!

all the other recommendations seem to be buy people with lots of money. If you are like me when I was 16, I had to buy my own car and thus was limited in my options.130k is NOT a lot of miles for a Honda. Yes, it is too much for a Cavalier and lots of other American cars but 130k is only half way through the life of a well cared for Honda. What to look for: Find a car from the ORIGINAL owner that has all the documentation (oil changes, repairs, etc.), well cared as demonstrated by nice shiny paint, no carpet or seat stains, no holes and even a clean engine bay. Other pluses to look for: garage kept, synthetic oil used, dealer maintained.

Cool Re: buying a honda with over 130k miles...?

130K is not a lot of miles. Just don't think that you are not going to put any money into it. I would allot anywhere from $500 to $1000 for mainenance.

That is:

Tires, timing belt, brakes, water pump, plugs, wires, Fluids, CV Joints, Exhaust system, A/C system.

If nobody knows when the timing belt was last changed, then you must change it. about $700

CV Joints... guessing about $500.

Catalytic converter $200

These are all things that you have to look at before you purchase the car.
