Hi,
I am having a problem with my 91 Honda Accord LX that I hope someone can help me with. It starts with the battery light flickering, then flashing, and I start to notice that my brake petal starts to go all the way down to the floor. I can stop the car by pumping them, but they will eventually go all the way down to the floor. It doesn't happen all the time, but it seem to be occurring more often. I have a new battery and the fluid level in the reservoir is good. Any ideas? |

This exact thing happened to me, I also drive a 91 accord, sounds like the same problem. most of the time it would slowly sink to the floor while i was driving, it was hard to completely stop because i had to keep pumping the brakes to get stoped. Like you said, sometimes it wouldnt do it and other times it did. it wasnt a good feeling not be able to stop on a dime, so i ended up buying a master cylinder from Napa for about $40-$60. I guess the piston in the brake cylinder went bad so i had to buy another, but it was one of the easiest fix's ive ever done, my dads a mechanic so i had a huge paved shop and all the tools i needed to do it, im 18 and havnt done this before but all it takes is a bottle of brake fluid and a couple wrenches, after (bench bleeding it) tou just bolt it in. although you have to bleed the whole brake system, which is farely simple you just have to have someone to help you pump the brake while you loosen each individual brake line by the tires. I just took my tires off and jacked up the car a few inches so it was easiar to get to. I suspect if you have someone to help you it wont take more than a couple hours from start to finish. if you need more assistance on what to do just ask, I can pretty much give you a step by step how-to if needed. Hope this helped.
P.S. after I replaced the master cylinder it was flawless. stoppping perfectly and not worying about it sinking to the floor... and im no sure about the battery light. let me know how it goes. -Eazy |

That seems to have fixed the problem. I replaced the master cylinder, reservoir, and cap. I took it to Brake Masters and that's what they said I needed as well. I did it myself and saved about $250. Thanks for the post!
