Hello all, first time poster here, thanks for taking me into your community.

I've got a stock 1999 Honda Accord EX V6 with roughly 91k miles on it. It's generally a beauty and I love the thing, but the last few months, the transmission has been shifting pretty roughly, especially on downshifts.

It's a bit jerky and sends a vibration that's easily felt in the passenger cabin. Even putting into reverse from park gives the car a bit of a jolt.

I've been remiss on tranny services, mainly because I travel very often and am away from the car for weeks at a time.

Two mechanics gave two different takes. One suggested a rebuild--quite an undertaking, not to mention expensive. The other suggested putting in a clutch control valve spring as well as a transmission flush and service.

I had the 2nd mechanic do just that today, which has helped some, at higher speeds, but it's still not as buttery as it once was.

Does anyone have any insights/experience/thoughts to share? I would be much appreciated. Go easy on a new guy!

Hi, I'm new here as well. I actually got some good through here by using Google to help me with a problem so I thought I'd help someone out if I could here as well.

I have the same exact car as you, and this is a very common problem with Accords of our generation. There is nothing you can do but put in a new transmission whenever it goes bad, this issue has never been resolved by Honda except for extending the warranty (which I think is an unsatisfactory response).

Seriously, Honda really messed up with this for me. I would think twice before buying a Honda again after this experience. Their resolution to fix my transmission by replacing it with another transmission with the same defect leaves me dumbfounded. This is a horrible business practice.

I believe this is the service bulletin for the problem.

Also, I want to add that I agree that this is (was) generally a very nice car. However, Honda's response to this problem was atrociously poor (the problem was denied for a while) and this model in particular, has reminded me of the workmanship of poorly built Fords and the like.
